Free 10-question business assessment

Can your financial back office answer the next question?

This is not a bookkeeping quiz. It tests whether the system behind the books can support owner pay, hiring, pricing, and runway decisions without a scavenger hunt.

01Do you receive a complete monthly P&L and balance sheet by the 15th business day?
02Are the important balance-sheet accounts reconciled, not merely categorized?
03Can you see taxes, payroll, debt, and upcoming obligations separately from available cash?
04Can you see at least 13 weeks of expected cash movement?
05Is owner pay governed by a policy rather than the current bank balance?
06Can you identify which services, projects, or customers create the strongest margin?
07Do you review actual results against a budget, forecast, or operating baseline each month?
08Can the owner understand the month in one page without translating accounting reports?
09Are recurring accounting tasks documented with a clear owner and deadline?
10Could you answer whether the business can afford a hire within 30 minutes?

What the score means

0-7

Reactive

The books may satisfy a deadline, but they cannot reliably guide the owner. Begin with cash, reconciliations, and one delayed decision.

8-14

Useful but owner-dependent

Some parts work, but knowledge or follow-up still lives in one person. Standardize the close and produce a concise owner view.

15-20

Decision-ready

The system is doing its real job. Protect the cadence, test assumptions, and keep reporting connected to current decisions.

Educational assessment, not an audit, assurance engagement, or opinion on the accuracy of financial statements.
